Getting started
What you need
- A Mac with macOS 26 or later.
- An email address. There's no password.
1. Install
Download Loom, open the disk image, drag Loom Agent to your Applications folder, eject the disk image, and open Loom Agent from Applications. Loom checks for updates once a day and asks before installing; you can let it install them overnight instead (Settings › Updates).
2. Sign in
Under Start with your email, type your email address and choose Continue. Loom emails you a link that works for 15 minutes. Click it on this Mac, or type the 6-digit code from the email and choose Sign in. There's no password. Every new account starts on the Free plan with $5 of usage.
The welcome screen also has Share usage data. It's off unless you turn it on.
3. About you
A short, optional form helps your agents from the first day:
- Name and What to call you
- Time zone
- What would you like help with? Pick any: planning my day, email, keeping up with news, research, bills and budget, shopping and prices, meals and cooking, travel, learning something, home and garden, finding a job, tidying files. Or say it in your own words.

Every field is optional; Skip works too. Your answers are saved as a pinned About you note in Memory on this Mac, which every agent can read. Edit or forget it any time in Memory.
4. Make your first agent
Under Start with…, Loom suggests ready-made agents that match what you picked. Pick one and it's made in one click. You can also Browse all starters or start From scratch and describe the job in your own words. See all 13 starters.

A new agent then asks you 2 to 4 setup questions, one at a time: pick an answer or type your own. Answer later in its chat skips them. You can change the name, schedule and instructions any time.

5. Decide what it may do
Each agent has Rules (in the agent's settings). For each kind of action, like using the web, changing files, deleting, sending, posting, paying or signing in somewhere new, you choose:
- Always: it goes ahead.
- Ask me: it asks you each time.
- Never: it's refused.
When an agent asks, the question appears under Needs you on Home and in the sidebar, with Allow once, Always allow or Not now.
Routines run on their own, often while you're away, so they can't stop to ask. If a step needs your OK, a routine skips it and tells you afterwards.
6. Keep an eye on it
- Home shows what needs you, what ran and anything that didn't.
- Each agent has a dashboard of widgets it keeps up to date, a Library of what it made, and its Memory. Pin any widget to Home.
- Press Run now to run a routine straight away.
- Routines keep running when Loom's window is closed. Anything that needs you waits until you open it.
